Sterling Planet Teams with Clean Air Council for New Green Projects in Philadelphia

Green reinvestment fund to bring more clean energy to metro area

Atlanta, GA, June 27, 2012 – Sterling Planet, the nation’s leading retail provider of renewable energy and other carbon-reduction assets, announced today a unique partnership with Clean Air Council, a Philadelphia headquartered nonprofit organization, to fund and manage projects aimed at further improving air quality in Philadelphia.

Sterling Planet and Clean Air Council are both participants in the current citywide campaign to support Mayor Michael A. Nutter’s goal to make Philadelphia the greenest city in America. Recently designated a Green Power Community by the Environmental Protection Agency, the city has become the largest municipality to qualify by purchasing at least 3% of the city’s energy use from renewable resources such as solar and wind.

Now Philadelphia’s leaders are asking individuals and organizations in the urban community to also enroll for green power. That’s where Sterling Planet and Clean Air Council come in. Sterling Planet is offering Philadelphia individuals and businesses a certified 100% wind energy product for as little as $7.50 monthly. Every signup with Sterling Planet grows a green reinvestment fund managed by Clean Air Council. Sterling Planet will contribute 10% of program revenues to the fund, which the Council will then use to deliver new renewable energy installations or projects to increase energy efficiency.

“Sterling Planet is committed to ‘paying it forward’, creating environmental and economic benefits today while also reinvesting in the future by helping fund new green energy projects,” said Alden Hathaway, Senior Vice President at Atlanta-based Sterling Planet. “We reached out to the highly reputable, locally prominent Clean Air Council to manage these new funds and put them to the best use for the community.”

“We are excited about the opportunity to bring benefits to the city of Philadelphia,” said Thurman Brendlinger, Clean Air Council Sustainable Energy Program Director. “This alliance with Sterling Planet provides an easy way for Philadelphia’s green power buyers to make a bigger difference.” Options for fund use include rooftop solar panels on local schools and energy-efficient LED lighting projects.

To grow this green reinvestment fund, Philadelphia residents and organizations can enroll for Sterling Planet wind energy at www.philadelphiagreenpower.com.

Sterling Planet leads the nation in retail sales of renewable energy certificates (RECs) and is the only provider of a comprehensive portfolio of carbon-reduction assets – RECs, carbon offsets and innovative White Tags® energy efficiency certificates. Founded in 2000, the Atlanta-based company was the first to offer RECs to retail clients nationwide and was a pioneer in early development and certification of the REC market. This year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ranks Sterling Planet No. 1 in terms of renewable kWh provided to members of the EPA Green Power Partnership, with more than 5 billion kWh delivered to Partnership members, including the top three purchasers. In compliance markets, Sterling Planet is a leading supplier to government agencies and has partnered with 160 utilities nationwide. www.sterlingplanet.com
