Sterling Planet is the first US based company to offer international renewable energy attributes certified by EKOenergy, the international ecolabel for renewable energy.

ATLANTA, GA, April 2, 2016 – Sterling Planet, a leading renewable energy certificate and carbon offset provider, recently announced their decision to partner with EKOenergy to offer internationally sourced renewable energy. Since 2000, Sterling Planet has sold over 60 billion kWh of US based renewable energy certificates to Fortune 500 companies, commercial businesses, utilities, and residential customers. The addition of EKOenergy enables Sterling Planet to offer internationally sourced renewable energy instruments that are third party certified and meet the Scope 2 Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

Based in Finland, EKOenergy is an international network of environmental organizations which seeks to establish a set of criteria based on best practices for implementing European environmental, energy and consumer protection standards. Renewable energy instruments sold with the EKOenergy label fulfill strict environmental criteria, guarantee energy is 100% renewable and support new renewable energy projects. New renewable energy installations in developing countries projects are supported through EKOenergy’s Climate Fund guided by the EKOenergy Board.

With the rising demand by multi-national companies to meet Scope 2 emissions guidelines, Sterling Planet and EKOenergy are able to effectively bring solutions that help meet corporate sustainability goals on a global basis. More and more American headquartered companies are taking environmental responsibility for their operations outside of their North American footprint. Sterling Planet's vast knowledge of the U.S. market combined with EKOenergy's profound knowledge of local energy markets in other parts of the world, especially in Europe, is a natural fit as both organizations serve an ever expanding market.

Steven Vanholme from EKOenergy responds "While consumers of energy may get a guarantee that somewhere in Europe electricity was put on the grid, there is no guarantee that it was sustainably produced. That is where EKOenergy comes in. With a set of sustainability criteria for the production of energy, we are able to unite tens of thousands of consumers across Europe. Now with our partners at Sterling Planet, American companies with operations abroad can rely on the EKOenergy Label to provides assurances for their renewable energy purchases here on the Continent. "

Through this new partnership, Sterling Planet will bring more renewable energy options to US purchasers.
