Sterling Planet offers you Sterling Wind™ renewable energy certificates (“RECs”) that directly support electricity production from new wind facilities nationwide. New renewables come from generation facilities that first began commercial operation no more than 15 years ago. Each REC represents the environmental attributes of 1 megawatt hour (or 1,000 kilowatt hours) of electricity produced in a way that results in significantly reduced emissions and has less environmental impact. Only one REC may be issued for each unit of renewable electricity produced.

REC purchases also help build a market for renewable electricity and may have other local and global environmental benefits such as reducing global climate change and regional air pollution.

By enrolling in Sterling Wind™,  you will be billed separately by Sterling Planet. Charges are in addition to your existing electricity bill, and you will remain a customer of your utility, which will continue providing electricity, customer service and emergency response to your home.

Your purchase of renewable energy certificates (RECs) is supporting electricity production, nationwide. For every unit of renewable electricity generated, an equivalent amount of RECs is produced. The purchase of RECs helps offset conventional electricity generation in the region where the renewable electricity generator is located. The purchase also helps build a market for renewable electricity and may have other local and global environmental benefits such as reducing global climate change and regional air pollution.
